Farms have become factories and the animals merely production units. Nearly 95% of the 700 million animals raised and slaughtered for food in Canada every year live in intensive confinement. They are crammed, shackled and caged in filthy conditions that don’t permit them to perform even the most basic natural behaviors. Most will never feel the sun on their backs or grass under their feet. Their transport and slaughter conditions are equally horrific. If dogs or cats were treated this way, there would be a public outcry.

The Vancouver Humane Society (VHS) works to expose this cruelty and empower individuals, businesses, communities and governments to help end animal suffering and exploitation. Through efforts like our Meatless Monday program, we have been able to introduce the issue of factory farming, and the impacts of plant-based eating in helping spare animals from such suffering, to schools in and around Vancouver. Funds will help VHS expand the Meatless Monday program to more schools and continue to spread the humane-eating message.
