Causes - Snow Leopard Trust

Issue

As few as 4500 to 6000 snow leopards remain in the wild, 75% of which are located in China, India, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and Pakistan.  Increasing threats including poaching, reduction of natural prey, loss of habitat and conflicts with local communities and mining operations mean this endangered cat needs protection now more than ever.

Response

The Snow Leopard Trust is determining priorities to protect and preserve the wild Snow Leopard and it's habitat through sound science and building partnerships that turn local communities into conservation allies.  By understanding snow leopard behavior/habitat and listening to local communities to identify needs, the Snow Leopard Trust is working  a future for this mystical and amazing 'ghost of the mountain'.
